Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, reverted to his formative years back in North London, when he tried out pie & mash at Rayleigh Lanes Cafe, recently.
Mark was born in Crouch End, Islington in 1965 and prior to moving to Basildon with his parents in 1971, he developed a love of traditional London pie & mash at a nearby pie & mash shop, which the Islington locals affectionately nicknamed “The Ritz.” Given his history, Mark was delighted when the cafe in Rayleigh Lanes Market, between the High Street and Websters way, added traditional pie & mash to their menu.
Having been in to sample their wares, Mark commented:
“As someone who grew up on pie & mash when I was a boy, I can vouch that this stuff is the real deal - perhaps because the pies themselves are apparently made in East London. If anyone misses London-style pie & mash, they might like to pop down to Rayleigh Lanes and check this out for themselves.”
