Churches from across the town of Rayleigh got together recently to lay on a very successful family fun day for people of the town and the surrounding area in King Georges field.
The weather was good and this helped contribute to the turn out, with several thousand people estimated to have visited the event over the course of the day. The fun day was officially opened by Councillor Margaret Spencer, the Chairman of Rayleigh Town Council and it provided a whole range of stands varying from bouncy castles to face painting (the latter of which was popular with some adults as well as the children).
Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois also paid a visit to show his support and to see the fruits of much hard work which was put in by the local church community to make the event possible. Commenting on the outcome of the Family Fun Day, Mark Francois said:
“This was a really good event which was clearly enjoyed by many families from Rayleigh and I think some from further afield as well. Young and old alike seemed to be having a great day and I now also have the advantage of knowing what Father Jerry Brown gets up to in the evenings.
We are lucky to have a strong sense of community spirit in Rayleigh and the churches are an integral part of this, so on behalf of all of my constituents who had such a good day out, I would like to congratulate the local church community for a job well done.”
