Rayleigh & Wickford MP Mark Francois, who studied history at University, was pleased to show his support for a special tour of the Old House, Rochford, designed to highlight the strong historical links in the Rochford District.
The original Old House, on South Street, was built back in 1270 and added to in stages down the centuries. It had a number of owners from the Medieval period onwards, until it was purchased by Rochford District Council (RDC) partly for use as Council Offices, back in 1982.
Today, the Old House is used as a wedding venue and for civic functions. The special tour, which was also supported by several other civic leaders from across Essex, was led by outgoing RDC Chairman, Cllr Jack Lawmon.
Commenting on the tour, Mark said:
“As a historian by training, I was delighted to support this event, to showcase the strong sense of history across the Rochford District, whose motto is ‘Our Heritage Our Future.’ It was also nice to seen Cllr Jack Lawmon, who has had a very good year as Chairman, conducting the tour as one of his last civic duties. I wish him all the best for the future.”
