Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, explained his royal duties as the late Queen’s messenger to Parliament, when he addressed the Hockley and Hawkwell Branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A) recently.
The meeting, at Hockley Community Centre, saw an audience of over 100 U3A members listen to a talk from Mark, as their local MP, about his twenty-two years service in the House of Commons, including his two-year tour of duty as Vice-Chamberlain of Her Majesty’s Household - the late HM the Queen’s messenger to Parliament, several years ago.
Following his address, which was presided over by U3A Chairman, Cllr. Simon Wootton, Mark answered multiple questions from members about his duties in the Commons, as well as his wider work across the Rayleigh and Wickford constituency.
Commenting on the event, Mark said:
“It was a genuine pleasure to address the Hockley and Hawkwell U3A. They are an attentive audience who, among them, asked some very good questions. I really enjoyed the occasion - and I hope they did too.”
