Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, lent a hand in setting up a Macmillan Coffee Morning in his constituency recently.
A group of dedicated local volunteers baked cakes, filled balloons and organised a raffle, as well as laying on tea and coffee for local residents, to assist is raising cash for the popular national charity, which helps to support people suffering from different forms of cancer.
The event took place in Canewdon Village Hall and Mark dropped by early in the day, to wish the volunteers good luck, as they were setting up the venue to raise funds.
Speaking about the event, which raised several hundred pounds for Macmillan, Mark said:
“I would like to commend the dedicated group of local volunteers, who clearly put a great deal of effort into fundraising for this very worthy cause. I would also like to thank my constituents from Canewdon and the surrounding area, who came along later that morning, to help make the event a success. I know from my constituency casework that Macmilllan do great work in supporting families touched by cancer and so it is very encouraging to see local people doing their bit to lend strength to the charity’s arm.”
