Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, recently met today with two of his constituents, Rob Hayward and Pete Collins, both from Hockley, to support their imminent fundraising road trip across Europe to raise money for the MS Society.
On 13th September Rob and Pete will be taking part in the “Fireball Rally” James Bond Swiss Run in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. They will be driving 2,000 miles across Europe, covering eight countries in four days on roads which featured in some of the James Bond films, including ‘Goldfinger’, ‘Goldeneye’ and ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’; roads which will include the challenging Furka, Grimsel and Stelvio passes.
The trip is entirely self-funded, so all the money raised (and gift aid) will be donated to the MS Society for continued research into treatments and, hopefully one day, a cure for this awful disease of the nervous system. The pair will be driving a 5.0 litre Mustang V8 GT convertible and to bring them down to earth, literally, will be camping each night next to the cars.
The MS Society estimates that there are more than 100,000 people with MS in the UK and that each year an additional 5,000 are newly diagnosed with the condition. That means that every day approximately 14 people are diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Their fundraising page is https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fireball007 and they are looking to raise as much as possible for the charity.
Commenting on the fundraising endeavours of his constituents, Mark Francois MP said:
“It was a real pleasure to meet with Rob and Pete before they set off on their mammoth journey around Europe. Every day around 14 people are diagnosed with the condition, MS. This truly is an abhorrent illness and any efforts to support the valuable work of the MS Society has my wholehearted backing. I’d like to wish Rob and Pete all the very best and I look forward to hearing about their experience upon their return.”
