Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, joined large numbers of MPs and faith leaders from around the United Kingdom, at a specially convened National Prayer Breakfast in Westminster Hall recently.
The annual event is designed to improve communication between politicians and religious leaders from a number of different faiths and backgrounds from across the country. During the event, prayers were said for a variety of vulnerable groups, including Christians facing persecution around the world.
Mark was accompanied at the event by the Reverend Scott Williamson, the senior pastor at Rayleigh Baptist Church, situated on Rayleigh High Road. The two had a good opportunity to discuss the challenges facing the church in Mark’s constituency.
At the conclusion of the breakfast, Mark invited the Reverend Williamson to help convene a meeting of local church leaders which he is hoping to hold in the House of Commons later in the year, once Brexit is hopefully concluded.
Speaking about the National Prayer Breakfast, Mark Francois MP said:
“This is an important event in the annual calendar at Westminster and I was pleased to have the opportunity to share it with the Reverend Scott Williamson, who is one of the most prominent church leaders in my constituency. I am hoping that we can follow up on this with a meeting of church leaders in the House of Commons, where we can talk about a number of challenges in the constituency, including, drug use and antisocial behaviour, through to tackling elements of deprivation, where they exist.”
