Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois recently attended a special ceremony, as the guest of honour, at the Greensward Academy in Hockley, where he handed out prefect badges to dozens of new prefects at the popular secondary school.
Mark had been invited by head teacher, Katie Scarnell, to hand out the awards to experienced pupils who had been chosen to become prefects because of their strong track record at Greensward and their proven ability to look after their fellow pupils. Mark reminded the prefects of the importance of their new positions and urged them to use their new authority wisely, for the benefit of their fellow students and the entire community at Greensward.
Mark was also there to see the presentation of a silver Pearson Teaching Award by the CEO of the Academies Enterprise Trust, Mr Julian Drinkall, to popular Head of Arts, Claudia Windley, who will now go forward to the national final of the Pearson Teaching Awards (popularly known as the ‘Teaching Oscars) at the Roundhouse in London in the Autumn.
Speaking about his visit, Mark Francois said:
“In my 18 years as the local MP, I have had a strong association with Greensward Academy. Therefore, it was a great privilege to be invited to their awards assembly to hand out Prefect badges to so many impressive young people. It was also wonderful to see Claudia Windley being awarded her Silver Pearson Teaching Award. Along with everyone else at the school, I would like to wish her all the very best of luck for the opportunity of winning the ‘Oscar’ itself, at the national finals in October.”
