Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois was delighted to receive a letter recently from Mr Greg Sage, Communications Director at Greene King, assuring him that The Bull pub, Hockley, will be rebuilt and reopened.
The Bull, part of which dates from the 16th Century, was badly damaged in a fire at the start of August and is currently undergoing safety checks, to determine the level of damage to the pub. This will enable the owners, Greene King, to decide on the amount of work that will be required for the pub to be rebuilt. Greene King have assured Mark that, although this may take some time, they will endeavour to make sure the work is completed at the earliest possible opportunity.
Commenting on the welcome news, Mark Francois said:
“The Bull is a very popular local pub in Hockley and it is great news to hear Greene King are planning to rebuild the pub. Although Greene King have not been able to give a timeline for their reconstruction, due in part to the fact that The Bull is a Grade 2 listed building, I am sure residents in Hockley and the surrounding area will be delighted to know that in principle The Bull is now safe.”
