Rayleigh and Wickford MP and former Armed Forces Minister Mark Francois spoke up in the House of Commons this morning, in Defence of Army veterans who served in Northern Ireland during The Troubles.
Mark expressed strong concerns about plans to establish a body to review past fatalities in Northern Ireland, which some fear would result in a witch-hunt of former service personnel and not the terrorists responsible for The Troubles.
Mark told the Northern Ireland Secretary, Karen Bradley:
"Without the brave service of our Army veterans in Northern Ireland, there would be no peace there today. Is she aware that there are many of us on these benches who are not prepared to traipse blithely through the lobbies to support the establishment of any body designed to scapegoat our servicemen to pander to Sinn Fein."
In reply the Secretary of State reassured Mark that any new proposals would not be to the disadvantage of ex Servicemen.
