Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois recently congratulated national UK Rocketry Challenge winners from Sweyne Park School, when they paid a visit to Parliament.
The UK Rocketry Challenge, which involves the design, build and launch of model rockets, with the aim of ensuring the passengers (two eggs) remained intact, to reach a height of 800 feet with a flight duration of 41-43 seconds. The team from Sweyne Park came first in the national finals and represented the UK in the international finals in Paris, where they narrowly missed out on winning, after one of their eggs cracked.
Commenting on their achievement, Mark Francois said:
“It was fantastic to meet the national winners of the UK Rocketry Challenge from Sweyne Park in Parliament and to hear about their success in the competition last year. The UK Youth Rocketry Challenge provides students with a unique opportunity to apply what they have learnt in science, technology, engineering and maths and gain highly valued skills. I hope more local schools in Rayleigh and Wickford take part in the competition and that they are as successful this year. I look forward to supporting the local schools that take part as they reach for the sky.”
