Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois recently joined 1476 (Rayleigh) Squadron for a special dinner to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Air Training Corps in WWII.
The event was held at Saxon Hall, adjacent to Southend Airport which, as Mark reminded the cadets in his speech, had served as RAF Rochford, one of the key fighter stations during the Battle of Britain.
1476 (Rayleigh) Squadron has some 50 cadets in uniform, and is part of the wider Essex Wing of the ATC, which comprises over 1,000 cadets. The Rayleigh squadron, who are based at Connaught Road, are always looking for new members and anyone who is interested in joining is encouraged to telephone 01702 521 476 or visit www.1476squadron.co.uk for more information.
Speaking about the special evening Mark said:
"The Air Cadets provide a wonderful opportunity for young people to join an organisation that teaches disciple, teamwork and builds character too. 1476 Squadron are in good heart and it was a pleasure to spend an evening with them, commemorating their special anniversary."
