Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois recently visited FitzWimarc School in Rayleigh and held a meeting with Headteacher, Mr Robert Harris, to discuss the school’s plans to establish a new Sixth Form, which they hope to open in the autumn of 2016.
Mark has been a firm supporter of the School’s ambitions to establish a Sixth Form, which would follow in the wake of the opening of a Sixth Form at Sweyne Park School, last year.
FitzWimarc School is putting together a bid to submit to officials at the Department for Education and is also in the midst of a consultation exercise to seek support from parents and other interested parties for the new Sixth Form. The consultation period will run until 7th July and opinions can be submitted on the proposal, via the school’s website. Mark has already agreed to back the plan and will be adding his support to the proposal as the local MP.
Commenting on his meeting with Mr Harris, Mark Francois said:
"The Sixth Form at Sweyne Park School has clearly been a success but is already oversubscribed. I believe that allowing FitzWimarc to develop a Sixth Form as well would increase the range of choice and provision available to pupils living in Rayleigh. FitzWimarc is already an "outstanding" school and adding a Sixth Form would help to complete what the school has to offer for local people. I will now be doing all I can to support this bid once it is submitted next month."
