Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, has welcomed the news that Essex County Council are investing £10 million to help fill in potholes across the County. This includes £4.4 million of Government funding, which was recently secured from a national pot of £168 million and to which Essex has added an additional £5.6 million of its own, in an attempt to make a significant a difference to mending the counties worst roads, in both towns and rural areas.
Over the next few months, 36 road repair teams will be deployed (20 more than usual) to fix the worst potholes, drain covers, kerbs and pavements. The enhanced programme is due to roll out shortly and hopefully residents should soon begin to see some improvements.
Commenting on the news, Mark Francois said:
"Potholes seem to be a constant source of irritation among my constituents, which were made worse by the bad weather experienced during the last winter, so I am really pleased
to hear that the county council have secured £4.4 million to add to their own additional fund of £5.6 million which has now been set aside to tackle the worse of the potholes. This will not solve everything overnight but I do hope that this considerable sum of money will help improve the situation over the course of this year."
