Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, recently visited Hilltop Infant School, in Wickford, where he congratulated the staff on pupils on their fundraising efforts, in aid of Sport Relief.
Sport Relief is a biennial charity event from Comic Relief, in association with BBC Sport, which brings together the worlds of sport and entertainment to raise money to help vulnerable people in both the UK and the world's poorest countries. At the heart of the campaign is the Sport Relief Mile, which the children walked on the morning of Mark’s visit, many in their sports related fancy dress.
Mark was also given the chance to meet with the school council, who made the most of their opportunity to grill their local Member of Parliament about the intricacies of his job and life in Westminster. Given the childrens’ obvious interest in politics and the Houses of Parliament in particular, Mark wasted no time in acquiescing to their requests for a guided tour at the Palace of Westminster, which has subsequently been organised for later in the spring.
Commenting on his visit to the school, Mark Francois said:
“It was a pleasure to visit Hilltop School last week and witness their enthusiasm for Sports Relief and their associated fundraising activities. During the morning, I also had a chance to congratulate the staff and pupils on their hard work on achieving an ‘Outstanding’ rating by Ofsted, in addition to the ICT award the school recently won, which commends their use of technology to support teaching, learning and school administration. I was pleased to see Hilltop JuniorsHi appear to be going from strength to strength and I look forward to returning the favour and helping them organise a visit to Westminster in the near future.”
