Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, recently welcomed a group of gentlemen from Rayleigh Baptist Church to Westminster for a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament.
The group arrived in Westminster Hall where they were met by their personal tour guide, who took them on an informative ‘behind the scenes’ tour around the Palace with an historical narrative along the way. The group learned the history behind the construction of the Palace as well as the Great Fire which ripped through Westminster in 1834 destroying both Houses of Parliament, along with many of the other buildings on the site.
Following the tour, Mark met with the group for an informal question and answer session, which included Mark’s new role as Minister for the Armed Forces.
Commenting on the visit, Mark said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome the group from Rayleigh Baptist Church up to Westminster. They appeared to really enjoy their tour and certainly seemed to learn a lot of interesting information about the Palace from their tour guide. It seems whatever political background, if any, visitors come from, they are almost always impressed by the buildings and their exciting history.”
