Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, has offered congratulations to the Mushroom Theatre Company following a performance of their latest show, which took place at Seevic College in Benfleet in late July.
The performance included a variety of musical numbers, several soloists and also a number of sketches, which were performed by the company’s mixture of fully able bodied and handicapped children, to a full house of over 100 people in the college theatre.
The Mushroom Theatre Company, which has its base at Lubbards Farm, on the Hullbridge Road just north of Rayleigh, is an organisation which is allied to the charity Equal People, which provides an environment in which both handicapped and fully able bodied young people can participate in dance and drama.
Commenting on the Mushroom Theatre Company’s performance, Mark Francois said:
“I have seen a number of shows down the years, with everything ranging from school plays to Les Miserables but I can honestly say that I have never seen anything quite like the performance from the Mushroom Theatre Company last week. The sheer energy which these young people put into the performance is wonderful to behold and it is also great to see both able bodied and handicapped kids working so closely and enthusiastically together to deliver the show. When you see a production like this it really puts a lot of day to day frustrations into perspective and I absolutely recommend anybody who has not seen this company before to get a ticket next time they lay on a show.”
The Mushroom Theatre Company and its related charity, Equal People, are seeking to raise funds for a new theatre of their own and anyone interested joining the company or assist in their fundraising effort is encouraged to contact the company on 01268 780596.
