Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois joined local Government representatives at the Mill Hall recently to support the Open Day organised to promote the work of local charities and voluntary groups by the Rochford and Rayleigh Association of Voluntary Services (RRAVS). The event, which was attended by hundreds of members of the public and more than two dozen local charities, gave members of the local community a chance to learn more about the work of the charitable sector and also to get involved.
Local charities represented on the day included the Citizens Advice Bureau, Cruse Bereavement Care, Rayleigh Lions and the St John Ambulance, as well as both the Town and District Councils.
Speaking about the recent Open Day, local MP Mark Francois said:
“This event is a very useful opportunity for local charities and voluntary groups to come together and exchange information as well as to promote the services they can offer to the local community. In a way you could say this is the ‘Big Society’ in action and I was pleased to go along and support the event, which was very well organised by RRAVS and which had a good turnout in terms of support from local people.”
