Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, recently attended a Teddy Bear Parachute Jump an event organised by the Friends of Holy Trinity, of which Mark is the Patron, in order to raise funds for the Holy Trinity Church, in Rayleigh. At the event, Mark’s Parliamentary mascot, Portcullis, a veteran of the event, took the plunge for another consecutive year. Unfortunately for Portcullis, he suffered a rather traumatic leap, hitting the wall three times on his descent.
Following his tumble, Portcullis was met at the bottom of the Church tower by the ‘Paratedics (local school children)’, who, after initial triage, indicated that he would need to be transported to the ‘Tedical Centre’. He was subsequently met by the ‘Chief Tedical Officer’, from the local Vets for Pets, who quickly diagnosed a broken arm for Portcullis and subsequently administered ‘Fur-st Aid’ to the ailing mascot, in the shape of a splint and bandage.
Speaking after the dramatic event, Mark Francois MP said:
“I am very proud of Portcullis, for defying death again to raise much needed funds for Holy Trinity Church. He is the living embodiment of British pluck and of the old saying, it’s not the size of the bear in the fight that matters, but the size of the fight of the bear. Everyone who attended the day, seemed to have a wonderful time and I would like to thank all involved in organising such a fun and productive day.”
