Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, recently spent a Friday morning visiting Oakfield Primary School in Wickford where he had the opportunity to meet pupils and staff, before being given a tour of the school, which included the special ‘storytelling chair’ set in the school grounds.
Mark arrived at the start of the school day and begun his visit by meeting with Headteacher, Pauline MacMillan, where he had the opportunity to discuss a number of issues relating to education, both in the Basildon Borough area and more widely. Mark was then taken on a tour of the school where he had the chance to witness both pupils and staff in action, before being taken outside to see the ‘storytelling chair’ which is inscribed with the words ‘Once upon a time’, where children gather to hear some of their favourite tales being read.
Mark then had the chance to address the school at their morning assembly, where he answered questions from the pupils about being an MP and his associated roles and duties, as well as the work undertaken on behalf of his constituents.
Commenting on the visit, Mark Francois said:
“It was a pleasure to visit Oakfield Primary School and I was pleased to be able to take part in the morning assembly, as well as going on a tour of the school. I was particularly impressed with the ‘story telling chair’ in the garden which I thought was a really novel idea and something the children seemed particularly fond of. It was also useful to spend some time with Mrs MacMillan where we had the opportunity to discuss some important issues relating to the education of our young people in Wickford, which I shall be following up in the near future. I had a very enjoyable morning at Oakfield Primary School and I look forward to keeping in touch with the staff and pupils in the future.”
