Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, has voiced his strong opposition to the news that a waste disposal company are considering trying to build an incinerator on the Burnt Mills Industrial Estate, in Pitsea.
The company, Cleanaway, has apparently recently given notice that they wish to commence a consultation exercise, to seek the views of South Essex residents and their elected politicians, on their proposals. Following the consultation exercise, the company may then submit a planning application, sometime late this year, or perhaps in 2021.
Because this is a waste related application, it would be determined by Essex County Council (ECC) and not Basildon Borough Council (BBC). Nevertheless, as any emissions would very likely reach Mark’s constituency next door, Mark has attacked the plans as wholly unacceptable.
Commenting on the proposed incinerator, Mark Francois MP said:
“Essex County Council has historically been opposed to large scale incineration, as indeed am I, and I therefore very much hope that ECC will refuse this application, if and when it finally arrives, as I am sure my constituents and may others across South Essex, will not want to see an incinerator in their area. We have enough issues with over development in this part of the County as it is, without having to add insult to injury by throwing in an incinerator as well. I hope that if the consultation exercise is launched, South Essex residents will make their views very plain on this issue – and so will I!”
