Four South Essex MPs joined forces with a group of Chelsea Pensioners, to demonstrate their support for the popular charity Help for Heroes during a recent fundraising concert at the Cliffs Pavillion, Southend.
The concert saw the band of the Welsh Guards, one of the country's elite infantry regiments, performing a variety of numbers, ranging from Phil Collins tracks and Bond movie themes through to popular classics such as Land of Hope and Glory, and Jerusalem.
The event, which took place to raise funds to help servicemen wounded in Afghanistan, was also supported by the Lord Lieutenant of Essex, the Mayor of Southend and the Chairman of Rochford District Council, but the large audience gave a special welcome to a group of Chelsea Pensioners, who were staying in Southend for the weekend, specifically to support the fundraising event.
The special concert was also backed by local MPs David Amess, James Duddridge, Mark Francois and Stephen Metcalfe, who all attended to demonstrate their support in person.
Speaking on their behalf, Mark Francois said:
""Help for Heroes is a great charity which does so much to raise funds for our brave troops who have been wounded in combat. It was a really nice touch to see veterans from the Royal Hospital at Chelsea supporting the servicemen of today, and along with my fellow local MPs, it was a privilege to be able to join them on such a very special night.""
