Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, recently welcomed the Castle Mount Guides to Westminster, where they were taken on an extensive tour of Parliament, before being joined by their local MP in Westminster Hall for a question and answer session.
The tour, which takes just over an hour, took in various landmarks around the estate, such as the House of Commons Chamber, where Prime Ministers Questions’ tasks place, Central Lobby, which connects the Commons and the Lords’ chambers, and the Royal Gallery.
Following completion of the tour, the visitors were met by Mark and given the opportunity to ask any questions, both about the tour and about Mark’s work as a constituency MP, where he discussed several topical local issues, such as school transport and housing.
Commenting on the visit, Mark Francois said:
"It was a pleasure to welcome the Castle Mount guides to the Palace of Westminster. They are obviously a bright group of girls and seemed interested to learn about Parliament and the work of a local MP. I think it is important for young people to take the opportunity to come and visit Parliament in order to learn more about what goes on in Westminster and better understand the democratic process - as well as making the most of the opportunity to visit such an historic building."
