Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, recently opened the brand new public toilet facilities in Wickford, which are the first stage of a regeneration plan for Wickford Town Centre.
Mark was joined by Wickford Councillors Tony Ball, Malcolm Buckley, Don Morris and Carole Morris, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of the public restrooms, which are conveniently located on Woodlands Road, just off the market site.
Along with the High Street improvements, of which the new toilet block is a part, Basildon Council are also talking to traders about grants for shop front improvements, and expect to see work start in the spring on a major £2.4 million renovation and extension to Wickford swimming pool, bringing it up to the modern standards that a town the size of Wickford deserves.
Commenting on the opening Mark said:
“The provision of better public conveniences in Wickford Town Centre had been an ambition of the Council for a while and forms a component of the wider town centre regeneration program. I am relieved that these plans have finally come to pass. These new facilities will offer a clean, safe and spacious environment that I am sure visitors to the town will greatly appreciate."
