A South Essex MP met with a local school council, to discuss how the House of Commons works, as part of UK Parliament Week.
Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, visited St. Theresa’s Catholic Primary School, in Hawkwell, as part of UK Parliament Week (25 November to 2 December). The week is designed to increase the understanding of how Parliament works, especially among schools and colleges.
As part of Parliament Week, Mark visited St. Theresa’s in his constituency and held a discussion with their school council, who are elected from among their classmates to discuss the running of the school. Whilst there, Mark was also taken on a tour of St. Theresa’s by their Headteacher, Miss Jo Hickey.
Speaking about his visit, Mark said:
“St. Theresa’s is a happy and successful school, and their school council asked me some lively questions about how Parliament works. It’s important that we teach our young people how democracy functions and my very enjoyable visit was part of that process. I wish the school all the best for the future.”
