Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois was shown new classrooms when he paid a recent visit to Abacus Primary School, on the Wick Estate in Wickford. Mark was given a tour of the school by some year 6 pupils who showed him their recently completed classrooms, which has allowed the school to expand its numbers to around 350 pupils. As part of the tour Mark was shown a special “chill out room” which includes soft play and visual aids and in which pupils are allowed to spend time as a special treat.
Abacus School, which is rated Good by Ofsted, is very popular with local parents on the Wick and is gradually expanding its intake as a result. The school are also introducing a new initiative to try and control parking in the nearby area by parents who are taking their children to Abacus.
Speaking about his visit Mark Francois said:
“I have been to Abacus Primary School before so it was very nice to come back to the school and to see all the investment that has gone into their new classrooms. I was also pleased to see that the chill out room was still in operation and is apparently as popular with pupils as ever it was. I look forward to remaining in touch with Abacus School in the future and I have been invited back to address an assembly in the New Year.”
