Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, recently visited Beauchamps High School in Wickford, where he congratulated the Headteacher, Mr Bob Hodges, on the achievement of an ‘Outstanding’ rating following a recent inspection by Ofsted.
During his visit, Mark was taken on a tour of the school by Mr Hodges and he was particularly impressed by a display which was created by pupils to help commemorate the beginning of the First World War. Children from the school have toured a number of WWI battlefields and have produced some wonderful artwork, which is on display in the school’s main hall. In addition, Mark also met with a group of year 9 students who are undertaking a project in connection with the commemoration of the Great War.
Speaking following his visit to Beauchamps, Mark said:
"Beauchamps has always been a strong school but it was very pleasing to see this sufficiently recognised by Ofsted when they granted the school and ‘Outstanding’ rating – which any teacher will tell you is not something that is easy to come by. As the local MP,it was good to be able to offer my congratulations to Mr Hodges personally and also to see some of the really impressive work the school is undertaking to commemorate those who gave their lives a 100 years ago, so that we could continue to live in a free country. It is important that we never take that sacrifice for granted and it is encouraging to see young people in school playing their part to ensure the fallen are not forgotten."
