Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois recently paid a visit to Wyburns Primary School in Rayleigh, to hear for himself the success of their new parking scheme, which has been reducing the amount of traffic congestion outside of the school during the school run.
The school have recently introduced a scheme where children who walk to school are given a token which they put into a box in their classroom. At the end of the month, the class with the most tokens are awarded a special prize as parking champions and this has apparently led to keen competition among pupils to see their class achieve the parking top spot.
According to the Headteacher of Wyburns, Kath Sansom, on days where the scheme has been in use, this has made a material difference to the number of parents driving their children to school and has thus considerably helped to ease the parking challenges which the school has traditionally faced.
Speaking about his visit to the School, Mark said:
“Parking outside some local schools has always been a problem in my constituency and so I was very pleased to visit Wyburns to hear how they are addressing the problem through the parking scheme and the success they have been seeing as a result. I had a very enjoyable visit to the school and I wish them all the best in the future.”
