Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, was put through his paces by interviewers from Greensward Academy’s own in house radio station, Greensward FM, when he attended the school’s recent open evening, in Hockley.
Budding interviewers from among the school’s students, perhaps hoping one day to emulate John Humphrys or Jim Naughtie from the Today Programme, took Mark to their recording studio based in the heart of the school buildings and asked him a number of questions about his role as a Member of Parliament, and his support for the school.
Greensward FM acts as the schools own in-house radio station, and whilst supported by the teachers, is staffed almost exclusively by the pupils themselves, thus providing a regular and important source of news for the whole of the Greensward Community.
Commenting on his interview by Greensward FM, Mark said:
“I was pleased to accept the invitation by Mrs Debbie Stokes, Headteacher at Greensward Academy, to visit them recently and support the school’s Open Day. During the evening I had an opportunity to see a whole range of activities, stretching from a forensic science course through to a demonstration of theatrical skills. Along the way I was met by students from Greensward FM and taken to their recording studio so that they could quiz me. I think we have some budding journalists of the future at Greensward, but I am happy to say that I appear to have survived the interview intact.
Greensward Academy is a very good school and this was amply demonstrated by the enthusiasm of the pupils that I met on the night of my visit. I wish Greensward all the best for the future.”
