Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, was impressed during a recent visit to Belchamps Scout Camp in Hawkwell by the wide range of facilities made available their by the Scout Camp movement. Mark praised the organisers for their ability to lay on so many interesting activities for Scouts from Essex and from much further afield, not only camping but also activities such as climbing, archery and even an assault course.
Mark was accompanied on his visit by Cllr Heather Glynn the chairman of Rochford District Council and Cllr Jack Lawmon the Vice Chairman and all three were taken on an extensive tour of the camp grounds by Belchamps Scout organiser Nigel Ruse. Belchamps has been welcoming scouts to Hawkwell since early in the last century and the long established site has seen thousands of scouts of all ages pass through the gates.
Commenting on his visit Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, said
“Belchamps provides a really wonderful facility for the scouting movement and one that I am proud to have in my constituency. The scouts provide a whole range of positive activities for young people and it is good to know that we have a local facility where their horizons can be broadened further and they can be given new challenges.”
