Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, met members of the Ashingdon group of the Women’s Institute who were providing a popular tea and cake stall at the recent Ashingdon Family Fun Day.
The event, which took place in the field behind the Ashingdon Memorial Hall, proved popular with local people who were able to attend a number of stands and stalls, while being entertained by local bands and school choirs, on a specially constructed stage.
Mark supported the event as the local MP, during which time he met members of the Ashingdon WI group, which operates in the local area. Mark shared tea with the ladies and thanked them for their efforts in helping to keep people fed and watered throughout the day. Mark also invited the Ashingdon WI to visit Parliament early in 2015, in order to see the House of Commons and House of Lords in action.
Commenting on his meeting with the WI, Mark Francois said:
"The Ashingdon WI are a very lively bunch of ladies, who were doing good service supporting the Ashingdon Family Fun Day. The group clearly have a lot of spirit and it was fun to make their acquaintance. I do hope they will be able to take me up on my offer of a trip to Parliament next year, so they can come and see the democratic process in action for themselves."
