Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, was introduced to Hockley Primary School’s two School Ambassadors when he made a visit to the school recently. Ruby Estcourt and Ben Roberts have been chosen by their fellow pupils to act as ambassadors for the school and they were on hand to greet Mark when he arrived.
Mark had been invited to visit the school and speak to the pupils during the General Election but, due to a busy campaigning diary, he was unable to do so at the time. Nevertheless, Mark subsequently contacted the school and was given a chance to address pupils in a special assembly about the roles and duties of a Member of Parliament. Ruby and Ben played a part in this process by formally introducing Mark to the pupils prior to his speech.
Mark explained to the pupils what his job involves and then took questions for around 20 minutes on different aspects of his role including the hours at the House of Commons, the types of legislation that MPs vote on, and whether or not he had met Her Majesty the Queen!
Commenting on his visit, Mark said:
"I am sorry that I wasn’t able to get to Hockley Primary School during the General Election but it was a pleasure to follow up shortly thereafter and to be looked after by Ruby and Ben on my visit. These two young people are very good examples of the type of pupil Hockley Primary School produces and it was a pleasure to meet them as part of what I regarded as a very worthwhile trip."
