Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois was recently taken on a tour of the Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) Rivermead campus in Chelmsford, by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Thorne.
The tour included a number of modern facilities, including the Post Graduate Medical Institute (PMI), which includes a specially equipped operating theatre with internal cameras, allowing students to observe operations from a lecture theatre.
This facility also allows students to witness operations from hospitals around the world, providing they have similar camera equipment to allow this.
Whilst on the campus, Mark Francois discussed with the Vice Chancellor a number of issues relating to higher education, including the proposed increase in tuition fees, and ensuring access to the university remains open to students from all types of backgrounds. The pair also discussed the ability of foreign students to attend ARU, given the Government’s intention of tightening up immigration laws from this year onwards.
Speaking of his visit to the campus, Mark Francois said:
“This visit provided a good opportunity to discuss the concerns of many students with senior figures in higher education. Anglia Ruskin University is an asset to Essex and I look forward to staying in touch”.
