Rayleigh & Wickford MP Mark Francois joined a group of Scouts, past and present, for the celebration of their 100th anniversary.
The 2nd Rayleigh Scouts were formed back in September 1924 and a group of past and current members along with adult scout leaders held a special celebration of their century of scouting, at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Rayleigh. Mark attended as the local MP, to congratulate them on their achievement.
As part of the event, he read an extract from 2nd Rayleigh’s records, about how seventeen of their ‘tallest scouts’ were chosen to carry standards in a United Nations parade, back in 1945, to help celebrate the end of the Second World War.
Speaking about the 100th anniversary, Mark said:
“I am very grateful to the 2nd Rayleigh Scouts for allowing me to join in their centenary celebrations. They have a proud history and are still going strong, with a long waiting list to join and I wish them all the best for their next hundred years, serving the young people of Rayleigh and the wider community.”
