Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois attended the raising of the St George’s Flag at the King George V Playing Field in Rayleigh today to mark St George’s Day.
The flag raising, which was organised by Cllr Carol Pavelin the Chairman of Rayleigh Town Council, was supported by several councillors from both Rayleigh Town and the District Council as well as by pupils from Glebe School. The ceremony was accompanied by the Fitzwimarc School orchestra who played both the National Anthem and Land of Hope and Glory during the flag raising.
Commenting on the event, Mark said:
“As a proud Englishman, I was delighted to attend the raising of the St George’s Flag at the King George V Playing Fields to mark St George’s Day. The event was well attended by councillors and local pupils and it was made even more special with the fantastic orchestra from Fitzwimarc School.”
