Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, recently swapped his duties in Westminster for the local Marie Curie charity shop in High Road, Hockley, where he spent time serving customers and helping to collect donations.
Mark joined other local volunteers to help out in the charity shop, along with 50 other MPs across the UK who also lent their support to Marie Curie Cancer Care for one of the UK’s biggest single days of volunteering - Make A Difference Day.
The work done by volunteers is vital to charities up and down the country, and Make A Difference Day is an excellent way of encouraging more people to get involved with volunteering in their communities. Marie Curie Cancer Care makes a real difference to thousands of people’s lives, providing free, high-quality care to people with terminal cancer, and other illnesses, in their own homes and through Marie Curie hospices. Much of their work wouldn’t be possible without the help of volunteers.
Commenting on his shift in the local shop, Mark said:
“I was pleased to be able to take part in ‘Make A Difference Day’ which is held to raise awareness of a very important cause. I am very grateful to the team of volunteers in the Hockley branch who regularly give up their spare time in order to make sure that the Marie Curie shop is able to operate and provide such a worthwhile service to the local community”.
