Responsibility for the healthcare of some of Mark’s constituents, for example in Wickford, now falls under the jurisdiction of the Basildon and Brentwood Clinical Commissioning Group, which was created following recent NHS reforms and is made up of General Practitioners from across the Council areas.
Following a successful afternoon spent with the Rochford and Castlepoint Clinical Commission Group earlier this year, Mark wanted to do the same with Basildon and Brentwood, in order to get to know the leaders of the new CCG and discuss ways in which they can provide improved healthcare for his constituents.
Commenting on the meeting, Mark said:
“I had a very useful meeting with Mr Abell and it was good to have a chance to talk through patient care in South Essex. We discussed a number of issues relating to health care as they affect my constituents, not least access to GP’s surgeries and extending hours where practical. It was also useful to have an opportunity to talk about some of the long standing issues at Basildon Hospital and the effort which is being made to improve services there. I look forward to remaining in contact with Mr Abell and his CCG colleagues in the future.”
