Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois has congratulated the Rayleigh branch of Lions Club International on successfully raising £15,000 towards the cost of a new minibus for the Hockley and Hawkwell Over 55s Day Centre in Hockley.
Mark, who is also a member of the Lions International movement by virtue of his membership of the Palace of Westminster Lions Club, visited the day centre to see the new minibus, which is fitted with a wheelchair lift for disabled access, and to offer his congratulations to all those who were involved with the successful project.
The brand new minibus will now help to take people to and from the centre and also to take people on day trips during the year. Mark stayed for a special celebratory lunch and met a number of the centre’s users, as well as supporters from the Rayleigh Lions themselves.
Commenting on the day Mark said:
“As a fellow Lion myself, I was very proud of all the work that the Rayleigh Lions Club have done in order to raise such an impressive sum towards this brand new vehicle. The Hockley and Hawkwell Day Centre is a very popular location in my constituency and this wonderful new asset will help to make it even more accessible to members of the local community in the future.”
