Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, has formally written to Rochford District Council to give his backing to a recent planning application by Tesco to expand the car park outside their convenience store on London Road, in Rayleigh.
The planning application, which would involve removing a grass mound at the front of the store adjacent to London Road and tarmacking it over to provide five additional car parking spaces, was submitted to Rochford District Council several weeks ago. Mark, who has been campaigning for quite some time to see the carpark expanded – in order to try and reduce problems of congestion and bad parking around the store - has requested that Rochford District Council should now approve the planning application, so that work on the expansion can begin as soon as possible.
Commenting on the situation, Mark Francois said:
"This whole saga has been going on for over two years and I have had numerous letters from local residents who have been very upset about the lack of parking outside Tesco’s London Road store. While adding five parking spaces will not solve the problem completely it will help to ameliorate it and it is certainly better than nothing. Given how long this has all been going on, I hope that the Council will pass this application and then Tesco can get on site as soon as possible, in order to expand the car park and try to reduce the disruption that has been caused to people living in the area."
