Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, recently welcomed the Hockley and Hawkwell U3A on a visit to Westminster, where they were given the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour of Parliament.
A group of nearly 40 members of the Hockley and Hawkwell branch of the University of the Third Age arrived in Westminster on a recent Friday afternoon to be taken on a guided tour of Parliament. The guides showed the group various landmarks around the estate, such as Central Lobby, which connects the two chambers, the House of Lords, the Royal Gallery, the House of Commons and the Queen’s robing room.
Following the tour, Mark was able to meet with the group for a question and answer session, which took place immediately afterwards in Westminster Hall, where he was able to explain a little more about the iconic building as well as answering any questions that arose from the tour - before handing out certificates and taking a commemorative photograph.
Commenting on the visit, Mark said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome the Hockley and Hawkwell U3A to Westminster as I think it is important for people to take the opportunity to come and visit Parliament in order to learn more about what goes on in Westminster and better understand the democratic process - as well as making the most of the opportunity to visit such a beautiful building. I hope the group enjoyed their tour, and I look forward to keeping in touch in the future”.
