The Sensory Room is the newest addition to the Megacentre, funded by a £20,000 grant from the Essex Environment Trust. The new facility includes features such as an Interactive Sensory Floor, Fibre Optic Den, Borealis Bubble Tube, LED Solar Projector and an interactive LED Infinity Panel - all designed to stimulate young children in their development and learning. The activities in the room are all suitable for babies to under-5′s as well as special needs children and groups.
The MegaCentre is a youth & community resource which opened in 1994 to provide a place for young people who had ‘nowhere to go and nothing to do’. It is now home to various other activities including Megazone Laser Tag, MegaPlay Soft Play, Music & Conference Rooms and Theatre and S-Kape Youth Centre.
The MegaCentre is a not-for-profit social enterprise owned by the registered charity ACT (Active Christian Trust) and all the net income generated by the various activities is reinvested to further develop the Centre as a community resource.
Commenting on the visit to Rayleigh Megacentre, Mark Francois said:
“The MegaCentre is a fantastic resource for the local community and I very was pleased to be able to open their brand new sensory room. The Active Christian Trust’s MegaCentre is one of the best youth facilities anywhere in Essex and is now even better thanks to the generosity of the Essex Environment Trust. The Sensory Rom is a cracking facility and I hope that my constituents, and those from further afield as well, will really enjoy using it in the future.”
