Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, has today welcomed news that the Grove Woods Playing Fields, in Rayleigh, have received £25,000 from the Landfill Communities Fund and the Veolia Environmental Trust.
The project will install new play equipment at Grove Woods Playing Fields, increasing play and exercise opportunities for a wide range of users aged four to fourteen. The grant will fund installation of a new safety floor surface, multi-play climbing equipment and accessible play facilities. The new play area will provide a focal point for community activity where children and families can meet and socialise in a safe and welcoming environment.
The Landfill Communities Fund is a tax credit scheme enabling Landfill Operators to contribute money to organisations enrolled with ENTRUST as Environmental Bodies. They use this funding for a wide range of community and environmental projects in the vicinity of landfill sites. LOs are able to claim a credit (currently 5.3%) against their landfill tax liability for 90% of the contributions they make. Since its inception in 1996, over £1.6 billion has been spent on almost 60,000 projects across the UK.
Commenting on the award, Mark Francois said:
“I am delighted that the Veolia Environmental Trust has awarded £25,000 from it’s contributions to the Landfill Communities Fund, to provide new play equipment at the Grove Woods Playing Fields. As we emerge from the Lockdown, we know what an important role these outside spaces provide to the community. I hope many enjoy these new facilities and I would like to thank Veolia for providing the grant.”
