Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, was delighted to host his fellow Parliamentarian, Lee Rowley MP, the Member of Parliament for North East Derbyshire, when he attended the Rayleigh and Wickford Conservatives monthly Supper Club at Saxon Hall near Southend Airport recently.
Like Mark, Lee is one of the 28 so called ‘Spartans’, Conservative MPs that voted against Theresa May’s ill-fated Withdrawal Agreement, on all three occasions that it was put before the House of Commons.
As part of his talk, Lee explained something of his background and how he came into politics. This included how he succeeded in winning his seat, in what was traditionally a mining area in North East Derbyshire - which had last been held by the Conservative Party back in the 1930s. Lee apologised to his audience for being in casual clothes on the night as he had been out on the doorsteps in his Derbyshire consistency earlier that afternoon.
Commenting on the visit to the Supper Club by his Parliamentary colleague, Mark Francois MP said:
“Lee has only been in the House of Commons for a few years, but already he has made his mark as someone who is a powerful speaker and who has gone down very well with his constituents. It was very good to have him come down to Essex to explain his background to my association members and also to hear his absolute commitment to why we should leave the European Union on 31st October 2019. Lee is one of the rising stars in the House of Commons and so we were very lucky to have him come along and address our Supper Club, particularly as he had had a very busy day in Derbyshire, earlier that afternoon.”
