Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, joined literally thousands of his constituents recently, in turning out to support the 100th annual Wickford Carnival, as it progressed from Runwell, through the town, along Wickford High Street, to finish up at the recreation grounds, off Nevendon Road.
The Carnival itself contained a wide variety of floats, manned by charitable and community groups, ranging from the local street pastors, through to the Wickford Carnival Court and similar Courts from other towns in the South Essex Area.
Thousands of people from across Wickford turned out to witness the carnival procession and to help raise funds for charity. As part of this, the head of the procession was led by Mark and the Deputy Mayor of Basildon, Councillor Derrick Fellowes, along with one of the carnival organisers, Sean Taylor, closely followed by the fire engine from Wickford Fire Station, accompanied by firefighters, who were raising money for the Firefighters Charity.
Commenting on the great day out, Mark Francois MP said:
“It was wonderful to be a part of this 100th anniversary display of charitable and voluntary groups, participating in the Wickford Carnival. The town turned out in full force, to give all the participants an extremely enthusiastic welcome, and I believe a tidy sum was raised for charity as well. The Lord was kind and the weather was great, overall it seemed the townsfolk had a fantastic day out, both young and old alike. As the local MP, I would like to heartily thank the organisers for doing such a brilliant job, in laying on such a tremendous day for the whole community.”
