Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois MP, recently met with Rail Minister, Huw Merriman MP, at the House of Commons to discuss the rebuild programme for Wickford station.
During the meeting, Mark outlined to the Minister the background to the issue- and he expressed that his constituents deserve a decent, modern train station in a town the size of Wickford. For his part, The Minister confirmed that Greater Anglia has submitted a bid for DfT funding to help rebuild the station, as part of their Annual Business Plan for 2024-2025, and the outcome of this request will, hopefully, be announced shortly.Mark has previously spoken out several times in the House of Commons about the “unacceptable situation” at Wickford station in which Abellio Greater Anglia (AGA) demolished the station without a clear plan to rebuild it.
Additionally, Mark has also met with AGA’s management on numerous occasions, in order to press for a quicker solution.
Commenting after the meeting with the Rail Minister, Mark said:
“I thank the Rail Minister for a very constructive meeting during which I was able to express a strong desire for this situation to be resolved, as soon as possible. Clearly, my constituents deserve much better and I look forward to receiving from Abellio Greater Anglia, firm dates as to when this rebuilding project will now finally be commence."
