Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, joined a party of British MPs to welcome their counterparts from Finland to Westminster, as part of their accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).
Mark, a former MoD Minister, now serves on the all-party House of Commons Defence Committee (HCDC), who met with their opposite numbers from the Finnish Defence Committee, led by Finnish MP Mr Sebastian Tynkkynen, during their recent visit to London.
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Finland has recently opted to join NATO and is now being followed by fellow Scandinavian neighbours, Sweden, which will now make for 32 members of the West’s leading defensive alliance.
Commenting on the meeting with their Finnish counterparts, Mark said
: “As a member of the Commons Defence Committee, I was proud to represent my constituents in welcoming our Finnish counterparts to London and to NATO. Along with Sweden, they are strengthening our collective defence and security in an increasingly uncertain world.”
