Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, recently attended the official launch of the new Retail Skills Academy, which took place in the newly opened Westfield shopping centre in Stratford.
SEETEC, based locally in Hockley, has been appointed by Westfield, to help run Stratford City’s 8,500 square feet ‘Retail Academy’ at what is now Europe’s largest indoor shopping centre. The Academy will be pivotal in the training and recruitment of staff, to match around 3,000 of the expected overall total of 13,000 vacancies which will be generated by the development.
Thereafter the Academy is expected to train over 1,000 people annually towards careers and qualifications in retail, hospitality, administration and support occupations. The majority of these people are likely to be drawn from the Essex and East London areas.
Commenting on the event at the Westfield shopping centre, Mark said:
“I was pleased to be invited to Westfield Stratford City for the official launch of the new ‘Retail Skills Academy’, which I believe is a very worthwhile project that I hope will prove immensely beneficial to the people of Essex and East London. SEETEC is a major employer in my constituency, whose core aim is to help people find training and employment. I wish them every success with their new Academy and I hope to stay in touch in the future.”
