Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois was joined by his Parliamentary Colleague Stephen Metcalfe MP, when the two local MPs attended a parade in Basildon Town Centre on Armed Forces Day, Saturday 30th June 2018, to celebrate the contribution which our Armed Forces and veterans make to our national life.
The parade was well supported by members of the public and saw a large contingent of Air Cadets on display as well as a sizable contingent from the Sea Cadet corps. Most importantly a number of veterans were also on parade, including one who had come ashore on the beaches on D-Day 74 years ago.
Speaking about this important event, Mark Francois said:
“Both Stephen Metcalfe and I were honoured to be present for this very important parade, on a day when people across the country thank our veterans and Armed Forces for everything that they have done to ensure that we live in a free society. We should never take our freedoms for granted and our service personnel are the bedrock of our liberty so it is quite right that as a nation we thank them for their service.”
