Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois, who was a keen rugby playing scrum-half in his youth, recently met with ex-England star Lawrence Dallaglio at a BT Sport reception in the House of Commons.
Mr Dallaglio, who acts as a pundit for BT Sport, was explaining to MPs and staff of the Commons how BT Sport sought to cover rugby events and what his role involves as a commentator.
Mark was among a number of MPs who asked questions of the ex-England star including on the team’s prospects on the forthcoming World Cup. Mark was also joined at the event by fellow Essex MP, Sir David Amess, who is also a rugby fan.
Commenting on the meeting, Mark Francois said:
“Many years ago, I captained my school rugby team and I have fond memories of playing on very muddy pitches against other schools in the Essex area. I still take an interest in rugby and as such it was a great privilege to meet with Lawrence Dallaglio and to hear about some of his experiences as an England player and more latterly as a commentator. Unfortunately, this is not England’s best season at present but I do hope that their fortunes will recover in time for the World Cup.”
