Former MoD Armed Forces Minister, Mark Francois, saw for himself Britain’s latest tank, during a recent visit to an Army exhibition in London.
The Rayleigh and Wickford MP, who also served as a TA infantry officer during the Cold War, viewed the new Challenger 3 Main Battle Tank, which was on show at the ‘Army Expo 24’ exhibition at Wellington Barracks, a ten minute walk from the Houses of Parliament.
The Challenger 3 is a modernised version of the British Army’s existing Challenger 2 tank, with a new 120mm gun and upgraded electronics and protection systems. It is due to enter service with the British Army’s Armoured Regiments, within the next few years.
Commenting on his visit to the exhibition and viewing of the new tank, Mark said:
“The upgraded British Challenger 3 will be one of the best, if not the best, main battle tanks in the world. It is vital to bring modern kit like this into service, to reinforce the British Army and uphold our commitment to NATO."
